Background
Chickakoo Lake Park is one of those parks that draws the same people winter and summer. In winter, the park's 14 kilometer trail network invites hundreds of cross-country skiers who come to challenge themselves on the rolling parkland terrain. In summer, the skiers switch to bikes and hiking shoes, and ride or walk around the same network.

Flora and fauna
The trails wind their way through the forest or beside four small lakes, which give summer strollers and bikers a chance to see various birds and other wildlife in a natural setting. Chickakoo Lake Park also features a seasonal chalet for winter recreation. This chalet lets skiers rest up and find shelter from the wind and cold.

Parkland county
Chickakoo Lake Park is maintained by Parkland County. The park provides cross country skiing, an interpretive trail, walking, hiking, cycling and equestrian trails. 14 kilometres of trails are set aside for cross country skiing each winter. All levels of skiers will find it challenging. There is a nice picnic area and outdoor washrooms. The park is also used as a boat launch and fishing is popular.

Take yourself for a walk
Indian Ridge is the setting for a self-guided tour. There are clearly marked signs that provide details of the natural features. The park is very popular with bird watchers. The forest and lakes provide a home for numerous species. There are 480 acres to wander around in and enjoy nature at its best.
