The Big Picture
The Royal Tyrrell Museum is a world famous facility dedicated to the collection, study and celebration of palaeontology. Located in heart of Alberta’s notorious Badlands surrounding Drumheller, the Tyrrell Museum boasts a vast assortment of program and exhibitions, featuring interactive learning and displays of some of the most remarkable fossils found anywhere in the world. The museum plays host to hundreds of school groups and tours each year. Since opening in 1985, it is estimated that several million people have visited the Tyrrell Museum.
Amenities, Programs and Exhibitions
This is a great place for adventure, discovery and hands-on education for families, students, and visitors of all ages. The museum features gallery upon gallery of extraordinary displays, including 40 mounted dinosaur skeletons, a living exhibit of a cretaceous garden, and a massive recreation of underwater life from 350 million years ago. The museum offers interactive school programs, special summer classes, and a revolving assortment of travelling exhibitions. Surrounding the museum, the Badlands offer spectacular preservations of dinosaur fossils exposed by floodwaters from melting glaciers more than 10,000 years ago. Visitors can literally step outside the museum entrance and walk through this amazing landscape. The facility also has a large cafeteria with an outdoor patio, a gift shop, ample parking, and an outdoor picnic area.
