The venerated Alberta Ballet was originally founded in Edmonton in 1966. In 1990, the company merged with the Calgary City Ballet, and the two have been successfully creating and performing as one entity ever since. The new company established offices in both cities, creating its headquarters in Calgary and its administrative office in Edmonton. Although based in Alberta, the Ballet travels not only across the country, but worldwide, as well, to share their artistic inspiration on stages around the globe.
That Was Then...
This company of professional and apprentice dancers performs to bridge the gap between tradition and modern day. In the creative world, the Alberta Ballet is breaking grounds with the desire to become “a new voice in classical ballet”. The company is proud to be a dynamic member of the Canadian cultural community, and distinguishes itself through superb performance of acclaimed ballets and commissioned works. Based on the traditions of classical ballet, Alberta Ballet uniquely incorporates a contemporary twist that separated them into stand-outs in the world of dance.
