Size Doesn’t Matter
Its radius covers barely more than a block, but this area is a must-see for all followers of the arts. With a constant slew of festivals and events, this part of downtown always has something going on. Clustered around the pocket-sized Sir Winston Churchill Square, Edmonton’s Art District is in the city’s central urban core. Surrounded by a vast array of touristy comforts, from hotels to restaurants and shops, this area takes “artsy” to a whole new level.
What’s the Big Deal?
This is a small place with big names. Two world-class performing arts centres, a major urban art gallery, and two unique performance spaces make a ring the park (and that’s just the beginning!). The Citadel Theatre, with its international reputation for gripping drama and entertaining comedy, is one of the keystones of the arts district. Directly across from the Citadel is the Winspear Centre, home of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and renowned for its phenomenal acoustics. Just another few steps north of that on 99 Street is Tix on the Square, which is the Edmonton Arts Council's ticket agency. The Edmonton Art Gallery and Edmonton City Hall are both located within the same vicinity as well.

In the middle of it all, Sir Winston Churchill Square holds everything together. Here, jugglers, jazz musicians, artists and others entertain during various summer and winter festivals. Perfect for just a stroll or a place to be entertained on any given day, this is the cultural core of the city.
