A Family of Jewellers
Five generations of British jewellers have contributed to Birks' outstanding reputation. In 1879, after a 22-year career at a major Montreal jeweller and clockmaker, 39 year-old Henry Birks opened his first store. His studio was created in 1887, in the same building that today houses Birks' head office in Montreal's Phillips Square.
