Profile Last Updated: February 23, 2009
Established in 1961, Broadmoor is one of those affordable gems of a course that you'd rather not tell too many pals about. Dropped smack dab in the middle of a residential area in Sherwood Park, this well-groomed 18 presents quite a challenge for would be hackers. Service is excellent and the course is usually in fantastic shape, mostly due to the contributions of superintendent Bob Onyschuk. Broadmoor luckily landed Onyschuk a few years back after he proved his worth at the stunning Cougar Creek course west of Edmonton.
The Layout
It's by no means a grind in terms of length, but Broadmoor's tricky set-up can bite you hard. The south nine begins with a fairly straight forward four-par, though a banana off the tee can get you in definite tree trouble.
The fifth has a nasty, undulating green, while the next hole, a problematic par-three, has trouble everywhere. Number nine is a somewhat terrifying par-five because of the massive water hazard staring you right in the face as you drive. The north side starts with another five-par that boasts a tough, elevated green. A few shortish par-fours appear to be a relief though a huge number is always just one ill-timed stroke away.
