Just outside of Edmonton, nestled in the quaint bedroom community of St. Albert, lies the celebrated local eatery - The Cajun House. You’ll feel right at home in this warm and wonderfully colourful dining room; vibrant, oversized masks dot the walls, amidst a distinctive display of New Orleans-style artwork. Soaring ceiling heights and ample windows give the room a grand feel. To add to your dining pleasure, tables are large and widely spaced. A number of booths are also available, or you can book your own private party room for special functions.
Down Home Cookin’
You’ll find the menu comprehensive, moderately priced and bursting with all of your Cajun and Creole favourites. Wet your appetite with an order of coconut shrimp, try the Louisiana alligator boudin (homemade alligator sausage) or sit back and enjoy a hearty bowl of seafood gumbo. The salute to southern cooking continues with dinner entrees, like pecan chicken, grilled crab cakes, jambalaya and shrimp creole. If you can’t make up your mind, the Cajun house combination plate is the perfect solution. Of course, no New Orleans-inspired menu would be complete without a selection of po-boy sandwiches, and the Cajun House is no exception. Regional favourites include your choice of oyster, shrimp, ham and chicken po-boys, or sink your teeth into the Cajun classic muffaletta sandwich (Genoa salami, Italian ham and Provolone cheese).
Good Ole Southern Hospitality
These friendly folks delight in taking your taste buds on a trip down the Mississippi. With such great service and down home atmosphere you’ll want to stay a while - at least long enough to sample some of the delicious desserts. Who could say no to a slice of mouthwatering pecan pie, scrumptious bread pudding or ‘oh so chocolaty’, Mississippi mud pie? If your tummy is bursting from the main event, your server will be happy to box up your selection to take home and enjoy later. Luckily, any of the divine dishes that are prepared by The Cajun are available to eat in or takeout.
