Giving blood saves lives. Let's take a moment and imagine we're a country of citizens who put as much emphasis on giving blood once a month as we do on remembering to buy our lottery tickets. Gone would be the desperate calls by the Canadian Blood Services to add stock to our frequently dangerously low reserves of blood. We would no longer have to import plasma from other countries around the world to see our own citizens through their respective health crises. Imagine.
A True Service
The Canadian Blood Services is a not for profit, charitable organization that operates blood-collecting facilities and manages the Canadian Unrelated Bone Marrow Donor Registry. Each year they collect about 850,000 units of blood. Now there are several types of donations needed; whole blood, plasma and platelets.
A National Organization That Saves Lives
The Canadian Blood Services has 41 permanent collection sites and 19,000 blood donor clinics annually. At the Edmonton location they prefer you call ahead to make an appointment, so that you don’t have to wait around to save a life, but they welcome drop-ins as well.
To Donate: Help them to realize their goals. In the end, it's all for you. To find out where the nearest clinic and blood collection dates (or bone marrow registry dates) call 1-888-2DONATE.
