Make it, Bake it, Grow it!
City Market has been in operation in Edmonton since 1903. Since then, local vendors have filled the streets every Saturday with fresh locally grown produce and homemade items. There is nothing that didn’t come from the vendor’s farm, kitchen, home, or backyard. The market philosophy is “make, bake or grow it.” Shoppers will be able to find a calendar at the market and on their website to find out the months that certain fruits and vegetables will be offered.

To Market, To Market
With over 100 years of residency in the downtown core, the City Market, existed even before Edmonton was a city. Since then the market has created a reputation for having the best of various local products, but most specifically and consistently, bedding plants and perennials in the spring. Purchases and perusals at the City Market don’t stop with filling your garden, however, with art, baked goods, bath products, candy, chocolate, certified organic goods, chefs, community groups, concessions, fruits and vegetables, handcrafts, home décor, honey, jams, dips, jewelry, fashion, meats, poultry, seafood, pet products, pottery, prepared foods and seeds occupying the stalls week after week.

Open to All
This fully outdoor market, attracting more than 7,000 people per Saturday, creates an old-world atmosphere that seems somehow separated from the rest of the city. Buskers are also often found on the streets, adding entertainment value to a leisurely morning spent shopping and chatting with local artisans, farmers and chefs. Pedestrian-friendly, environmentally friendly, and newcomer-friendly, the City Market shows how Edmonton continues to thrive, with residents, merchants, and products of all varieties interested in a sustainable future that stays connected to its roots.
