Corner Kicks
On winter weeknights, the procession of cars into a nondescript west end industrial park starts around 5 p.m. and doesn't stop until around midnight. The vehicles and their cargo of eager young soccer players are heading towards the Edmonton Soccer Centre, one of the most popular participant recreation facilities in the city.

Scores!
The 108,525 square foot soccer centre, opened in 1995 to help deal with rising demand for indoor playing fields, has been successful since day one. Its four fields, each approximately 180 feet long by 80 feet wide, run almost non-stop minor soccer schedules on winter weekdays. Weekend schedules are equally busy, with a constant turnover of teams, coaches and officials.

Sidelines
At the Edmonton Soccer Centre West, there is bleacher seating for 560 spectators, as well as a licensed sports lounge, with 150 seats overlooking all four fields. Soccer fans can tip a pint while watching their favourite side. Soccer players aren't the only ones getting a workout, though. During spring and summer months, the artificial turf is lifted and stored, leaving smooth concrete surfaces that are used by ball hockey, lacrosse and inline hockey leagues.
