Hole’s Greenhouse and Gardens is as much an institution in Edmonton as its founders. Lois and Ted Hole started selling vegetables to passers-by at the roadside of their St. Albert farm in the 1970s and have since become one of Canada’s largest gardening operations; it remains on the original farm site on the north bank of St. Albert's Sturgeon River. The business is still a family affair, owned and operated by the Hole Family.
Award-Winning Stock
The greenhouse stocks seeds, bulbs, cut flowers and seedlings from Europe, the United States, Japan and all across Canada. Their plant material comes from trusted, proven suppliers—the best the world has to offer. And, if you’re interested in knowing how your favorite flowers came to be, ask the experienced and friendly staff about their field trials of new varieties the greenhouse plants every year, testing them for garden performance in Edmonton's climate. Inside the 57,000 square-foot retail and growing space, the computerized environmental controls ensure that heat and humidity are maintained to insure proper plant growth. In addition to flowers and plants, the Hole’s Greenhouse sells gardening-related gifts including patio and garden items, books, candles and more. You can even pick up a gardener’s specially-designed hand cream for that hard-to-shop-for person on your list.
More than Just a Job
Hole's employees share a passion for plants: all of their managers and senior staff have degrees or diplomas in horticultural fields, and all employees love to share their knowledge with customers.
Plans for the Future
In 2009 Hole's relocates to South Riel Drive in St. Albert on a 10-acre parcel of land directly east of the site of the Interpretive Centre in the Lois Hole Centennial Provincial Park. For any of your gardening needs, Holes’ Greenhouse stocks it.
