Casual Italian Eatery
Soothing yellow and blue tones set the comforting mood of this popular eatery. It’s certainly casual, though the menu is all class. Work up an appetite while watching the staff cook their specialties in the open kitchen at the back of the restaurant. Il Forno is known to shake up the menu with unique fusion styles, although its roots always remain firm in Italy. Favourite dishes include cardinale (penne with sliced chicken, mushrooms and a white wine pesto) and many new ones are created each day.
Pizza Draws the People
Another standout at this restaurant is the incredible brick oven pizza, with a thin crust and multi grain dough. Try the quattro stagioni (four seasons) or the cappricosa. It’s no wonder Il Forno draws a big crowd on Saturdays – reservations are strongly recommended. They also have live entertainment every Thursday, featuring a harpist.
Regional Delicacies
The pastas range from the beautifully simple (Napoletana, with a basic tomato and basil sauce) to the more exotic (the Calabrese, complete with homemade sausage). Antipasti plates, calamari and cozze alla marinara (mussels with white wine and tomatoes) are perfect starters, while the risotto with scampi, scallops and crab, or the vitello al lemone (veal with lemon) are hearty entrées. And don’t forget to save room for some gelato.
