Start out with some Aussie-tizers, including the bloomin' onion, Aussie cheese fries, walkabout soup, Kukkaburra wings and of course, the trademark grilled shrimp on the barbie. If your wallaby pouch needs a bit more stuffing, move on the Land Rover entrées, like Rockhampton rib-eye, the 12-ounce Outback special sirloin or the 20-ounce Melbourne porterhouse. It’s highly unlikely you’ll be able to polish off that entire entrée and then proceed on for dessert. So, it’s probably best to stop early and get your dish packaged for later because dessert is not to be missed. The chocolate thunder down under ranks as high as the ribs and you’d be a fool not to try it. With pecan brownie, vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce and chocolate shavings, you’ll be loosening your belt in no time but you deserve to splurge once in awhile.
Down Under
The Outback Steakhouse is decorated in Aussie fare, with pictures of Australia gracing the wall, and perhaps even the odd didgeridoo. It’s a place that’s often hopping with folks eating big meals, especially on the weekends. You’d be well advised to come a bit before the dinner rush on a Friday or Saturday night. But, the real draw that the Outback has to offer is found in their humble menu with classics like the bibs on the barbie. The ribs are nothing short of a godsend with meat that practically falls off the bones into your eagerly awaiting baby-bird mouth. And with sides like the garlic mashed potatoes there won’t be a dry eye or perhaps, more appropriately, an unoccupied mouth in the house.
