Reactive and Proactive Services
The Sexual Assault Centre of Edmonton (SACE) provides a number of services, some 24 hours a day, free of charge. With a strong mission to empower individuals affected by sexual abuse and assault, and to empower communities to take action against sexual violence, this organization has an important role in the Edmonton community. Primarily funded by the United Way, SACE officially opened its doors in 1976 and has expanded over time to offer a range of services that include public education, 24 hour crisis line, crisis intervention services, short-term and long- term group counseling and diversity outreach initiatives.
Help When It is Needed Most
Perhaps the most widely recognized programme offered by the Sexaul Assault Centre of Edmonton is the 24 hour crisis line, providing a friendly voice and solid information to those in need. Volunteers staffing the crisis line have had extensive training and members of this team are available around the clock. Public Education efforts revolve around school visits and explanations of what sexual assault is and its impacts. SACE will deploy a special group of experts to deal with individual crises, and will connect people in need of crisis intervention with other social services that may provide assistance.

Diversity outreach services address situations that immigrant and ethnocultural groups, gays and lesbians, aboriginal groups, seniors and those with disabilities often face. Each has a series of supports and programmes tailored to assist individuals with these backgrounds on their journey of coping and improving their situations. With its range of services addressing all fronts of sexual abuse, the Sexual Assualt Centre of Edmonton provides a beacon of hope and assistance for many in the Edmonton area.
