It’s a long way from Jolly Old England to Edmonton, but the well-established Sherlock Holmes chain recreates the feel of a local British pub. A wide selection of British and Irish beers, including favourites like Guinness, Kilkenny, Whitbread’s are served in the traditional UK pub glasses and helps to cure the thirst for a hearty ale. The beer menu is not limited to the British Isles; there’s a hefty selection of international brews, as well as Canadian beers.
Of course, those hearty ales go best with pub grub, and Sherlock Holmes has a menu that mixes traditional British fare with flavours from the colonies. Irish stew, fish and chips, Lancashire country chicken pie and of course, steak and kidney pie make for a traditional dining experience, but the menu also includes pastas, burgers, pizzas, and other dishes with a more global flavor.
The Vibe
The downtown Sherlock Holmes draws a hefty lunch and happy hour crowd from the nearby office towers. The spacious patio in front is a perfect sport for people watching during a hot summer day, especially when one of the many summer festivals livens up the city centre. Live entertainment varies weekly, sometimes even daily, but the usual choice is someone singing audience favourites to a piano or guitar accompaniment. Of course, no British pub would be complete without a dartboard; there’s always plenty of actions as folks take their best shot at the bulls-eye.
