Profile Last Updated: September 04, 2008
The Shoctor Theatre has been home to fractured fairy tales, dysfunctional families, grand heroes, keynote speakers, and large scale musicals. It is the Citadel Theatre's signature stage, where the annual production season opens each year, and where the now-traditional Christmas musical shows through the holiday season. The large proscenium stage, which has enough depth to allow intricately layered backdrops and sets, is also wide enough to stage grand production numbers.
The Details
With 2,000 square feet of performance area, the Shoctor Theatre stage is larger than many single-family homes. The theatre seats 681 people, and the adjacent lobby is used for many receptions and other functions. Named in honour of Joseph Shoctor, a lawyer and theatre aficionado who helped establish the Citadel in an old Salvation Army building, the Shoctor elegantly hosts Edmonton's most extreme productions.
A Gorgeous Venue
This sumptuous venue can also be rented for a variety of different events. With a lobby that can easily host 200 for a sit down dinner, the options are endless. Think weddings, bar mitzvahs, graduations and any other celebration, then imagine what the Shoctor can add. They also have special rates for charity events. Items like coat racks, a staffed bar, tables and other accoutrements can be arranged.
