If you think you can’t handle one more boring burger or another plate of dried up chow mein from the steam tray at the mall, why not give Ukrainian a try? Offering the full gamut of Eastern European cuisine, Shumka happily proves that pizza isn’t our only option. Plus, it’s one of the only places you can buy authentic Ukrainian food in the city, so why not go for a change of pace? You may make it a regular stop!
One Potato, Two Potato
The most obvious and well-known menu item is, of course, the humble perogy, a little bundle of potato and other ingredients wrapped with dough that is mostly unknown outside Europe and North America. It’s a down-home, cold weather favourite here in the Great White North. Topped with bacon, fried onion, butter, and lots of sour cream, those little potato packets are hard to resist. Meals from Shumka come in a variety of sizes, ranging from light snacks to full-on gorge fests.
Try Something New
How about some borscht? Maybe a kobasse sausage or a cabbage roll? Shumka fixes up all of the above, as well as soups, meatballs, sauerkraut, chicken, and a variety of soft drinks and juices, so the sky is the limit as far as Ukrainian food goes. Shumka can be found at two convenient mall locations, so it’s easy to munch while you shop for new shoes.
