Authenticity is Key
Smokey Joe’s was started 24 years ago by none other than Joe himself, an import from Oklahoma who met an Edmontonian and decided to make the leap north. Joe noticed a severe lack of barbecue and smoked foods in Edmonton, and sought to fill the niche. The result: a southern diner-style restaurant with plenty of authentic, Oklahoma ambience and flavour, in a convenient West Edmonton location.

It’s the Wood that Makes it Good
Why is Smokey Joe’s better that other smoked meat? They use only wood smokers, so there is none of that acrid gas flavour infused in your beef ribs. Add to that a lower smoking temperature, and the result is a tender, smoke-permeated, juicy piece of meat that will have you screaming for more. Beef ribs, pork ribs, brisket, ham, chicken – Smokey Joe’s does it all. In fact the only meat items on the menu that aren’t smoked are the burgers and steaks. Everything else goes in the on-site wood fired smoker. And if you can’t decide what to have, Joe’s offers two sizes of sampler plates, for the hungry and even hungrier.

Beans, Beans, the Magical Fruit
While chomping your way through a huge stack of beef ribs, you might notice other items on your plate. The fries are made from real potatoes cut on-site, no frozen bags of cardboard for Joe. The barbecue beans and barbecue sauce are made in-house, as well, in small batches, allowing for better control of spices and consistency, resulting in sweet, spicy beans and sauce. And almost everything at Joe’s is available in large quantities to go, in case you want to throw your own soul food party at home.
