Kid Friendly
The Sprucewood branch makes a cheery, kid friendly impression at first glance, with a row of cookie cutter shaped spruce trees painted in rainbow colours lining the wheelchair ramp outside. Inside the curving entryway the theme continues, with more trees along the front desk, and brightly colored puzzled piece shaped computer tables, low to the ground, just like the child- sized, cozy armchairs and low counters and carrels throughout the library.

Edmontonians Love their Libraries
There were over five million visits to the 16 library locations in 2006 which is a lot considering Edmonton contains just over a million people! Library members have access to hardcover and paperback books, magazines and newspapers, reference and research materials, music CDs, DVDs, records, audio-cassettes, videocassettes, large print, regular print and audio-visual materials in more than 30 languages, and government information from local, provincial and federal levels. Photocopying machines are available at all branches. The Edmonton Public Library system is leading libraries across the country by implementing a self check out system, making it easier than ever to use the library.

Free Internet
The library is one of the few places where anyone can get free computer and Internet access. The Sprucewood Branch has over 15 computers providing free access to the Internet, even for those that don’t have a public library card: they will be issued a temporary card for internet access purposes. With a library card you can click your way to downloadable eAudiobooks and ebooks, or a wealth of online specialty magazines, newspapers, databases and encyclopedias and more. You can even book a computer online in advance through the Edmonton Public Library website and its online computer reservation system.
