Strathcona Wilderness Centre is one of the most popular outdoor recreation areas within easy driving distance. Tucked into 550 acres of land in the rolling parkland, about half an hour east of Edmonton, the centre's trail network is popular with four season recreationists. In summer, visitors enjoy walking and cycling on the centre's 12 kilometres of trails. For folks who want to enjoy some watery recreation, the small lake is a perfect spot for canoeing.
The busiest time of year is probably the winter. The Strathcona Wilderness Centre's 12-kilometre cross-country ski trail network is groomed and trackset and has easy, intermediate and difficult loops. While most trails are for classical skiers only, skate skiing is allowed on two loops. There is also a multi-purpose trail that can be used by skiers, snowshoers and walkers. Each trail has several trailside rest stops and there is also a full-service ski centre with rentals and snacks.
